The Lamborghini Espada was produced from 1968 to 1978 and was Lamborghini’s first true four-seat grand tourer. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, the Espada combined bold styling with the brand’s signature V12 engine, offering both luxury and performance in a distinctive package. Over its decade-long production, about 1,217 units were built, divided into three main series with progressive refinements.
Series I (1968–1970): The original Espada featured the 3.9-liter V12 producing around 325 hp, a minimalist interior with aircraft-style switches, and unique rear “louvered” windows. Only about 186 cars were made.
Series II (1970–1972): This version gained power (up to 350 hp), a new dashboard with more conventional instruments, improved suspension, and upgraded brakes. Around 575 were produced, making it the most common version.
Series III (1972–1978): The final iteration featured further interior refinement, including higher-quality materials, power steering, optional automatic transmission, and minor exterior updates such as new taillights. It retained the 350 hp engine but emphasized comfort and drivability.
The Espada remains one of Lamborghini’s most distinctive classics—an audacious blend of futuristic design and grand touring practicality.

One year later the car was shipped to California and registered PERLA1 in name of Los Angeles based Mr. Perla on 11 February 1971. He cherished the Lamborghini Espada until he sold the car in 2009. Before being shipped to Germany, the engine and gearbox were rebuilt by Former Lamborghini factory test driver and marque specialist Claudio Zampoli. When the car arrived in Germany in early 2010, it was repainted in its original shade of Oro Metallizzato. Pictures of the car before painting (the car was in the same color) are present in file. The car was sold to a German enthusiast and received a German Fahrzeugbrief in 2011. In 2015 the car was sold to the next owner who brought the car to marque specialist Mugello Engineering in Hilversum (invoice in file). The car received a complete inspection. This restoration project had been sitting in a garage for the last 25 years and was not currently running. Later the car was exported to Europe, where it underwent a full restoration. The restoration was extensive with the bodywork taken back to bare-metal before being re-sprayed in her original “Argento” finish. All of the interior trim was also re-upholstered keeping to the original colour scheme. The black leather seat and dashboard cladding is superb. The replaced black carpets are still as good as new. Even the rear passenger handgrips were re-upholstered. The head lining was re-used as it was still in such good condition. During the restoration the engine and gearbox were fully rebuilt. The engine was taken apart and all hoses replaced. Finally every fixture was either cleaned up or replaced. In Nov 2020 #8470 had 13,065 miles when offered for sale at Gallery Brummen asking €187,500. It is described as "The car is a full matching numbers example with exactly the same colour scheme it left the factory with. The engine space looks as clean as a whistle. Of course looks are not everything, driving characteristics are just as important and it comes as no surprise that this Espada drives really well. The V12 engine runs fantastically well and the manual 5-speed shifts perfectly. Generally speaking this Espada’s condition is particularly fine. The wonderful bodywork has original, thin and correctly aligned body panels. The “Argento” paintwork is in top and undamaged condition. Underneath the Espada it is also very neat. The sound original chassis is completely rust-free. The Espada’s lovely appearance is accentuated by the Miura wheels with central locking nut. Other Information: for sale on ebay Nov07 17800 miles: text from advert: owner at this time bought this lovely car in 1995 and drove it for only a few months before I had to move to the UK. I stored the vehicle for the next 10 years without any conditioning or movement. Last year I rolled it out to a transport and moved the car to our garage in Missouri to begin tearing down for a complete restoration. Unfortunately, time is a major issue for me and I will not be able to carry out the work that needs to be done. The car is apart in some places and completely together in others. It is not running, however, it ran everyday while I owned it. During my ownership is was services at Paul Spruell Lambo in Atlanta and had a complete top-end rebuild, carb rebuild and sync and air conditioning service and recharge. There are some dents on the hood (bonnet) from a bit of hail and some idiot closed the bonnet with a tool in place on the passenger side so there is a small extrusion. Overall the car is in decent shape exteriorly with some spots of surface oxidation but nothing major. Interior wise the car needs restoration. The components are all there, but, it needs new hide, carpets and steering wheel (not falling apart but worn quite a bit). Mechanically the carbs linkage was very tight until some lubrication was applied, no hydraulic fluid (expected) and will need new exhaust. Again, I will re-iterate, it is all there (one Espada badge on the passenger rear is missing). I would like to get this to a new home before Christmas. update July 2012: Owner from Nov 2008 to September 2001, stripped the car down to bare metal and repainted back to original colour Metallic Red and redid the leather in Creme.
