The Lamborghini Islero GT, introduced in 1968, was the direct successor to the 400 GT and represented Lamborghini’s effort to create a more refined and practical grand tourer without compromising performance. Designed and built by Carrozzeria Marazzi, a small coachbuilder formed by ex-Touring employees, the Islero featured a clean, understated design that contrasted with the dramatic styling of other Lamborghinis of the era.

Under the hood, it retained Lamborghini’s proven 3.9-liter V12 engine, producing 325 horsepower, which allowed a top speed of around 250 km/h (155 mph). The Islero GT offered improved visibility, a roomier cabin, and greater comfort than its predecessor, while still delivering the brand’s signature performance and sound.

Production lasted only one year, with 125 examples built before it was replaced in 1969 by the more powerful and refined Islero GTS (or Islero S). Although often overlooked, the Islero GT is now recognized as a rare and elegant expression of Lamborghini’s early grand touring philosophy.

Chassis number 6129 was completed on 19 June 19, 1968 and ordered by Sr. Malverdi, delivered through Ferretti-Italcar in Bologna. Immediately after delivery, this Islero was taken over for study by General Motors Engineering Dept. to study the class and engineering of this masterpiece. Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini s.p.a probably already suspected this would happen and paid extra attention to the power of this specific copy. Experts report that it has considerably more power than the other Isleros. In 1972 it came into the hands of the second owner John Yearsley of Millsboro, Delaware, USA who owned it until 2003. The original engine has always remained with the car, although in that period (1976) the body color changed from silver gray to the current blue with code #6088-01. The black leather interior has always remained that way. The car has had a Dutch registration since 2017. In 2021-2023 it was seen for sale with 64,046 km in the Netherlands by Jac & Co New Classics BV asking €247,500.
